Benefits of Membership in the Council

The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation is a 501 (c)-(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the highest professional standards in the field of divorce mediation.

The Council provides a forum for the discussion of issues relative to accreditation of its members, professional development, and interdisciplinary relationships. It also dedicates time to the promotion of family wellness by increasing public awareness of mediation as an alternative to the traditional adversarial divorce process.

The Council maintains a current list of practicing members, as well as a speaker’s bureau that provides information on divorce mediation. The Council will assist families in locating and selecting qualified mediators in their areas.

As a member of NYSCDM, you will receive the following benefits:

  1. Peer Networking: A membership of over 200 mediators to network with both educationally and promotionally.
  2. Accreditation/Consultant Certification: An organization which offers accreditation and consultant level certification for identity of experience and expertise.
  3. Professional/Educational Development: NYSCDM offers workshops to its members and the Annual Meeting offers two full days of professional and educational opportunities.
  4. Speakers Bureau: A list of highly qualified speakers to address a wide variety of issues.
  5. Legal Updates: Newsletter and Annual Meeting updates on legal issues and changes in the law (including case studies) effecting our profession.
  6. Monthly Communique: designed to address timely educational and newsworthy issues.
  7. Web Page: Free basic listing on the internet (on our website) of your name, office address and telephone number.
  8. Brochures: Professional brochures suitable for use as a marketing tool available a a very nominal charge of 20 brochures for $5.00.
  9. Library: An extensive list of audio and video tapes relative to mediation available to borrow free of charge.
